About EMI

EMI was founded in 1985 by Edward Salmon after selling his shares of a company he founded called Permagile-Salmon Ltd., Long Island, NY – a manufacturer of epoxy, R.T.V. silicones, and urethane compounds for the electrical/electronic industries.

Initially, EMI acted as a Manufacturer Rep for Permagile-Salmon Ltd., and then other related product lines, while a book “Encapsulation of Electronic Devices and Components” was being completed and published by Marcel Dekker Inc., NY at the beginning of 1987.

At this point, the interest in U.V. cure technology was taken up, which satisfied a desire “to return to the bench”. The first decision taken was to confine efforts exclusively to the development of U.V. cure epoxies, an undeveloped technology in the electronics industry.

The first sales were made in Europe in 1989, which remains a major market. Growth has been rapid with sales often being double over the previous year. Approximately 75% of sales are export – Europe and Asia.

In June 1993, EMI occupied a 2,200 square foot building in Brookfield, Connecticut. In mid 1995, a second location was opened in Breckenridge, Colorado, in a new 2,800 square foot (owned) building. The Connecticut operation remained open until fall 1996, when it was closed as we had acquired an additional 5,500 square feet of space in Breckenridge. In 2019 we acquired another 2,500 square feet, making our square footage more than 8,000 with 15 employees.

In 1999, EMI became an ISO:9001 registered company and maintains this certification with periodic independent audits.

In 2000 EMI became part of Rex-Hide Incorporated.

Since the retirement of Ed Salmon, our founder, in 2002, EMI continues as a wholly-owned division of Rex-Hide Incorporated, a more than 100 year old corporation.

Rex-Hide is headquartered in Tyler, Texas and presently employs more than 350 people. EMI is one of ten corporate divisions. We have been headquartered in Colorado for over 20 years, where all R&D and manufacturing is housed with strategic inventory and documentation in a secure off-site location to meet uninterrupted customer needs.

EMI products are distributed world-wide via a network of independent distributors and representatives. UV curable adhesives continue to be our main focus.

The primary markets we serve include Data Storage (HDD), Opto-electronics, general micro-electronic assembly, and medical device assembly. We strive for continuous manufacturing efficiency improvements via larger, faster equipment.
